Panathlon President Giorgio Chinellato together with the presidents of the participating countries at the conclusion of the Austrian premiere
KLAGENFURT, 27 September 2026. With an international award ceremony, the 3rd International Panathlon Alpe-Adria Sitting Volleyball Tournament came to an end today at the Sportpark Klagenfurt. Croatia secured the tournament victory ahead of Italy, Slovenia and Austria.
The trophies and awards were presented in the presence of the Panathlon presidents from the participating countries. At the head of the distinguished guests was Giorgio Chinellato, President of Panathlon International. Together with, among others, Prof. Dr. Michael Ausserwinkler, President of Panathlon International – District Austria, and Government Councillor Roland Peters, President of the Panathlon International Club Carinthia–Alpe-Adria, he honoured the achievements of the teams.
In the final, Croatia prevailed over Italy with 25:12 and 25:17. Slovenia secured third place with 25:22 and 25:19 against Austria. The final ranking is therefore: Croatia, Italy, Slovenia, Austria
The award ceremony marked the conclusion of an international sports weekend during which the Panathlon Alpe-Adria Sitting Volleyball Tournament was held in Austria for the first time.
Teams from four countries met not only in sporting competition: Fair Play, inclusion and cross-border encounters in the Alpe-Adria region were equally at the centre. Already at the opening on Saturday, Prof. Dr. Michael Ausserwinkler spoke of a piece of sports history and emphasised his pride in opening a new chapter with the Austrian premiere. Regional Councillor Mag. Peter Reichmann, MBA highlighted the special value of sport, especially where people with and without disabilities participate together.
For Austria, Behnoosh Behravan — a player with long-standing international experience — was also on the court. The former Iranian national team player was simultaneously active as team coach in Klagenfurt. The tournament was organised by the Panathlon International Club Carinthia–Alpe-Adria and accompanied by an inclusive supporting programme.
