Climber in action at the Youth European Championships Helsinki 2023
After traveling from the USA to South Korea and China in the span of the last three seasons, the Youth World Championships of the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) is headed back to Europe for its 2025 edition, with the capital city of Finland, Helsinki, set to welcome hundreds of young climbers from 28 July to 3 August.
Following the successful organisation of the IFSC Youth European Championships in Lead in 2023, the KiipeilyAreena Ristikko – one of the largest Climbing gyms in Northern Europe – will host Lead and Speed competitions, while Boulder will take place in a different gym, Helsingin Kiipeilykeskus, located about 12 kilometers from the other venue.
IFSC President Marco Scolaris commented: “The Youth World Championships is an event that gives us a glimpse at the future of our sport. IFSC Europe had one of their Youth Championships in Helsinki last year, thanks to our friends in the Finnish National Federation, and the feedback I received was so positive. I have no doubt that our Youth World Championships in 2025 will also be a great success in their hands.”
Juho Risku, President of Finnish National Federation said: “Hosting the IFSC Youth World Championships is a big step, a game-changer for Finnish Climbing, and it shows very well how the sport has evolved here in recent years. An event like this will provide extremely valuable visibility for the sport in Finland.”
The event will be the first one featuring competitors divided into two age categories instead of three: under 17 and 19, while in the past they were under 16, 18, and 20.
The full calendar of the IFSC Season 2025 will be released later this year.
News and updates about all IFSC events will be available on the IFSC website, and on the Federation’s digital channels: Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok, LinkedIn,
