EOC in Bucharest: Lignano will host the EYOF 2027

From Bucharest, Romania, on the occasion of the 53rd general assembly of the COE Association of European Olympic Committees, the president of CONI, Giovanni Malagò, announced that the 19th edition of the EYOF European Youth Olympic Games – summer edition will take place in Lignano Sabbiadoro in Friuli Venezia Giulia, in the month of July 2027.

After 22 years, this great event dedicated to young athletes from all over Europe returns to the Friulian tourist resort.

A great challenge and a great opportunity to strengthen the image of Lignano as an international city of sport thanks to the structures and facilities present in the area, the excellent logistics and the many years of experience in organizing large multi-sport world events.

The numbers of the eighth edition of the games, which were held in 2005, give an idea of the extent of the initiative: 3 thousand athletes, 11 sports disciplines, 48 European Olympic committees, 1,227 volunteers, 5,689 accredited, of which 117 journalists, 409 match judges, 100 thousand spectators in the stadiums and 11 million visits to the official website in the 5 days of competitions.

The regional representative in Bucharest was represented by the mayor of Lignano Sabbiadoro and the president of CONI Friuli Venezia Giulia, Giorgio Brandolin, who, in recent months, has managed all relations with the highest international and national sports institutions, maintaining contacts directly with the president and general secretary of the COE, Spyros Capralos and Raffaele Pagnozzi and with the president of CONI, Giovanni Malagò.

This candidacy, which can count on the full support of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, is part of a broader program aimed at further developing the consolidated sporting vocation of the city of Lignano and of the same region which, in 2023, hosted the winter edition of EYOF.
